If you’ve ever thought, “I want therapy, but I can’t add one more commute, outfit, or waiting room to my week,” you’re not alone. Teletherapy lets you receive high-quality care from your couch, office, or minivan parked between activities. And for many people, it’s not just more convenient-it’s just as effective as in-person therapy because your nervous system can settle more easily in a space that already feels safe.
At Empowering Optimism Therapy (EOT), all sessions are online for clients across Michigan-designed to be personal, grounded, and actually doable for real life.

Why Teletherapy Helps (Beyond Convenience)
1) Safety signals matter.
Your nervous system reads cues from the environment. Familiar surroundings (your own chair, your own mug) often make it easier to breathe, notice sensations, and be honest-especially when discussing anxiety, trauma, or perfectionism. When your body feels safer, healing work can go deeper.
2) Consistency beats intensity.
Therapy isn’t a single breakthrough moment; it’s steady, compassionate practice. With telehealth, attendance tends to improve because it removes friction. No fighting traffic. No scrambling for childcare. No “I’ll skip today; it’s snowing.” You just click the link and arrive.
3) It’s made for modern life.
Teletherapy fits the shifting rhythm of work, caretaking, and unpredictable schedules. If you’re a high achiever balancing a full calendar, this flexibility is often the difference between wanting support and receiving it.

What We Treat Online (Spoiler: A Lot)
At EOT, teletherapy serves most of the concerns we specialize in:
- Anxiety & Overthinking: panic, rumination, decision fatigue.
- Perfectionism & People-Pleasing: burnout, numbing, never feeling “enough.”
- Trauma & Inner-Child Work: nervous system regulation, parts-informed care.
- Life Transitions: career changes, parenthood shifts, identity re-builds.
- Adult ADHD: Productivity challenges, organization, procrastination, follow through
The work is not “less real” because it’s on a screen. You still get a therapist who knows how to pace, attune, and gently challenge-plus somatic grounding tools you can practice in the exact environment you’ll use them during the week.

Your Pre-Session Ritual (A 10-Minute Tune-Up)
Teletherapy works best when you set the stage. Here’s a simple routine clients love:
Minute 0–2: Claim your space.
- Close the door; put a note up (“in a meeting”).
- Put your phone on Do Not Disturb.
- Light a candle.
- If helpful, use headphones for privacy.
Minute 2–4: Get comfortable.
- Sit where your back is supported and feet can rest on the floor.
- Bring water, tea, or coffee.
- Keep a tissue and notebook nearby.
Minute 4–6: Tech check.
- Test your camera and mic.
- Close extra tabs and streaming apps.
- Have your session link open and ready.
Minute 6–8: Orient to safety.
- Softly move your eyes left–right across the room.
- Name 3 things you see, 2 textures you feel, 1 sound you like.
- Exhale longer than you inhale (try 4 in, 6 out).
Minute 8–10: Set a tiny intention.
- “Today, I want to understand why I shut down in conflict.”
- “I want one boundary script I can try this week.”
- “I want to leave with my shoulders lower than they are right now.”

What If I’m Not a “Video Person”?
Totally okay. We go at your pace. You don’t need a perfect background, ring light, or camera-ready face. If being on camera feels activating, we’ll start with grounding and give your system time to trust the format. Many clients are surprised by how intimate and focused teletherapy feels once they settle in.
Privacy worries? We’ll help you brainstorm real-life solutions-white-noise machines near doors, a car session with parked-in safety, a short-term schedule shift, or time-boxed “walk-and-talk” segments if movement calms your body.
What Teletherapy Looks Like at EOT
- Trauma-informed, parts-informed, and somatic-aware. We blend gentle body-based tools (orienting, breath, micro-movement) with evidence-based approaches (CBT/ACT), so your system can feel safer and your thinking can get clearer.
- Warmth first, strategy second. We start where you are, validate what protected you, and build capacity-not just coping.
- Clear next steps. You’ll leave sessions with one or two tangible practices or scripts to try during the week.
